Successful Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy Demonstrates Advanced Surgical Care

The Urology Team at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital (LMUTH) successfully performed a Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy to remove a severely infected, non-functioning left kidney in a female patient.

The patient had been experiencing complications related to a damaged kidney that was no longer functioning effectively. After thorough medical evaluation, the surgical team recommended removal of the affected kidney to prevent further infection and protect the patient’s overall health.

The procedure was carried out using a minimally invasive laparoscopic technique, which involves making small openings in the abdomen through which specialized instruments and a camera are inserted. This modern surgical approach allows doctors to perform complex procedures with greater precision while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissues.
