NEONATAL CARE AND MATERNAL CARE- A PRIORITY AREA FOR THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH
Levy Mwanawasa UTH today hosted the Regional technical meeting for Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) and Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (EPMM).
-ENAP/EPMM is a global multi-partner initiative that is co-chaired by three UN agencies WHO, UNICEF and UNFPA and supports Health ministries in Member states to tackle maternal and newborn related issues.
Levy Mwanawasa UTH showcased some of it's best practices in maternal and Newborn health in the following areas:
1) Neonatal Intensive Care Units ( NICU)
2) Nursery of neonates
3) Obstetrics Intensive Care Units (OICUs)
4) High Dependency Units (HDUs) and Labor Wards.
Neonatal care and Maternal care are key priority areas for the Ministry of Health in Zambia as the Zambian government has supported this initiative.
Improvements in infrastructure, advanced medical equipment and skilled staff have contributed significantly to improved neonatal care and maternal care in Zambia.
Statistics show that Levy Mwanawasa UTH has recorded a significant reduction in neonatal and maternal mortalities.
